Many orthodontic offices focus solely on efficiency, moving patients through treatment with little personal interaction. While the clinical side of orthodontics is important, the experience should be just as meaningful as the results. A personalized approach can make all the difference—not just in creating a beautiful smile, but in making patients feel valued and understood. Orthodontic care should be more than just a routine; it should be a journey where patients feel heard, supported, and comfortable every step of the way.

At Okuda & Noorda Orthodontics, personalization is at the heart of everything they do. Dr. Brady Okuda explains more about how his team goes beyond traditional orthodontic care by building real connections with patients. From remembering names and interests to tailoring treatment plans to each individual, Dr. Okuda and his team create an environment where patients feel at ease.

Our Origin Story: Why Personalization Matters

For Dr. Brady Okuda, the commitment to personalized care started long before he became an orthodontist.  Dr. Okuda worked as an orthodontic assistant during his undergraduate studies, he saw firsthand how a new smile could transform a person’s confidence. “I got to meet a lot of patients that just weren’t happy with their teeth and had no confidence,” he recalled. “They would cover up their mouth when they laughed.” But once their braces came off, everything changed. “You’d see this kid go from shy and ashamed to someone with confidence who could take on the world.”

After dental school Dr. Okuda served as a dentist in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Captain, where he developed a strong foundation in patient care and precision.

Upon completion of his orthodontic specialty, Dr. Okuda transitioned to private practice.   Dr. Okuda noticed a common issue—many orthodontic offices treated patients like numbers. “We get siblings of kids that went to a different office, and I’ll ask them, ‘Hey, why did you switch to us?’ A lot of times, they say they didn’t feel like they mattered there,” he explained. “It felt like an assembly line, without a real connection with the doctor.” Determined to change that, Dr. Okuda built his practice around relationships. “My consultations are about 10 or 15 minutes, and my goal isn’t just to explain how to get straight teeth—it’s to build common ground with each patient,” he said. Whether it’s talking about video games, anime, or sports, he takes the time to connect on a personal level. “Whatever kids are into these days, I try to be into, so there’s always a way to relate.”

How We Build Trust From the First Visit

At Okuda & Noorda Orthodontics, the first visit is designed to be a comfortable, informative experience where patients and parents feel confident about their treatment plan. Instead of rushing into clinical details, Dr. Okuda focuses on building a connection while gathering the information needed to customize care. “The main goal is just to have them feel comfortable, build on something, and give them something to talk about,” he explained. “If I’m doing all the talking, I’m not doing my job.” By engaging patients in conversation and understanding their interests, he creates a relaxed atmosphere that helps ease any nerves about treatment.

Personalization extends beyond conversation—it’s built into every step of the consultation process. The visit begins with a thorough review of diagnostic records, including high-tech 3D imaging. “We pull up their X-rays and 3D cone beam scans, so they can see their whole skeleton,” Dr. Okuda said. “I’ll point things out—‘Here’s your first molar, here’s your second molar, here’s your wisdom teeth’—while asking them questions about school or hobbies at the same time.” This interactive approach keeps patients engaged while ensuring they fully understand their dental structure and any potential concerns.

Treatment planning is never one-size-fits-all. Whether a patient needs braces, Invisalign, or a multi-step process, Dr. Okuda carefully explains the best options for their individual case. “If it’s a more complex case, I don’t overwhelm them with everything at once,” he said. “I explain what we’re going to do first and why, and then we’ll discuss what comes next when the time is right.” By breaking treatment into clear steps and making adjustments based on each patient’s needs and lifestyle, Okuda & Noorda Orthodontics ensures a personalized experience that leads to the best possible results.
